BOOK REVIEW — Dear Aaron by Mariana Zapata

Gosh. I’m struggling with this review right now. I have so many emotions running through me it’s hard to get them down exactly the way I’m feeling them. I guess I should start by saying that Mariana Zapata is by far one of my favourite story tellers ever. Her books are an instant one-click for me, every single time. And I didn’t waste a second picking up Dear Aaron. And you know what? I loved it. I really really loved it. But sometimes, authors write such amazing books that our expectations sky rocket. I don’t want to take away from Mariana’s incredible talent. This book was great. But for me, and I absolutely hate to say this, this wasn’t my favourite of hers. And I’m almost crying as I write that. Because this book, the first 70-80%, OMG! A solid 5 stars. I read it faster than I’ve ever read before. I couldn’t put it down. The whole premise had me screaming for this book from the second the author announced it.

Ruby Santos knew exactly what she was getting herself into when she signed up to write a soldier overseas.
The guidelines were simple: one letter or email a week for the length of his or her deployment. Care packages were optional.
Been there, done that. She thought she knew what to expect.
What she didn’t count on was falling in love with the guy.

I mean, come on! That blurb sent me swooning already and I didn’t even have the book yet! I guess for me, I wanted more of the book as a whole. For anyone new to Mariana Zapata, she’s literally the queen of slow burn romances. And they are EPIC. It’s the reason I love her writing. She really tells a story. You learn to love and appreciate the characters as individuals before they begin any kind of romance, and the build up is amazing. Dear Aaron did exactly that. The letters to and from were building up emotions inside of me, making me feel anxious as to where the story was heading. Mariana’s writing style was a little different this time around, but her signature style was never far. But I think what fell a little flat for me was when they eventually did meet up, and the week that they spent together, I think I wanted more from them as a ‘couple’. It’s hard for me to say this without sounding like I didn’t like the book. What the author gave us was great, but I really felt like we could have had so much more of ‘them’. And I felt a little let down by the epilogue. I think the author missed an opportunity to really bring these characters and their relationship to another level, and it just didn’t make it there for me. Aaron and Ruby have this epic romance building throughout the time that Aaron is deployed, and I’m so excited for them to finally meet and ‘see’ their connection grow, and we did, but only just a little. And for that, the last 20% was 3.5-4 stars. I enjoyed it, just didn’t love it.

There was also the back story of the characters pasts that kept being brought up in small doses, but never really touched on fully, and I think I wanted to know more about that side of each of them. Although Mariana’s books are never overloaded with drama, I think this book could have done with just a little more.

Mariana’s writing is always amazing though. It’s something that I have always just loved about her books, even if I didn’t connect a lot with the story or the characters. I still end up finishing the books because of how easy the words flow. This one just fell a little short in terms of story. I would still absolutely recommend this book for anyone who enjoys those sweet, lighthearted romances. It was a really lovely read. I really enjoyed it, just didn’t love it as much as I was hoping I would.

BOOK REVIEW — Give Me Hell by Kate McCarthy

“Family means no one ever gets left behind.”

HOLY FREAKING WOW GUYS! I have finally found a new top favourite for 2017!!! From the gorgeous cover to the epic love story that spans over a decade, this book was an addictive, heart-racing, action packed, drama filled, EPIC romance that had me absolutely hooked from the first word to the very last (literally!!!). I honestly could not put it down. Lovers of romantic suspense, you need this series in your life. (I have reviewed books 1-3 here, and they really need to be read first). This review is spoiler free, so you are safe to continue reading even if you haven’t read the other books in the series yet.

“How do you give up the one thing that keeps you breathing?”

This story begins with a prologue of where book 3 left us. It’s a huge spoiler (and major cliffhanger) so I won’t go into any details, but those of you who have read Give Me Grace will know exactly what I’m talking about. And then the first chapter takes us way back to when Mackenzie Valentine was 11 years old. And we get to know her family and her relationship with Jake from the very beginning.

Mackenzie Valentine is wilful, fiery, and determined to prove she doesn’t need anyone. Desperate to break free from the over-protective parents and three older brothers who dictate her every move, she runs away at the age of seventeen to hunt down the only boy who makes her feel alive.

Throughout books 1-3 of this series, we get snippets of Mac and Jake’s relationship. We know there’s a lot of tension between the two. They’re always fighting. Something big happened when they were younger, and this is explained early on in this book. The author not only takes us back to the beginning, but we move our way through the timeline of the first 3 books (which is why reading them first is so important). I’m not usually a fan of books that do this, but I promise you, it doesn’t feel like you’re reading the same books again at all. In fact, Mac and Jake’s perspective is quite different from the others, making it feel like a new book with a familiar feel to it. It also doesn’t drag. We move quite quickly through the timeline we’ve grown to love and before we know it, we’re back in present day dealing with an entirely new storyline. This would not have been easy to do, so I take my hat off to Kate who has obviously spent hours on end crafting this story to what it is, so that we get exactly what we came for, without losing sight of where Mac and Jake’s story was heading.

“Jake is infiltrating my heart in some kind of sneaky ninja attack. Is this a crush? Because it feels crappy and wonderful, and I don’t like it one bit.”

Fans of this series will adore this book. Mac and Jake are exactly the kind of characters I had imagined them to be. Kate has absolutely nailed their story in my opinion. From their personalities, relationships with friends and family, to the way they dealt with the blows in their lives. This book was obviously written delicately, to make sure that every single word in every scene was absolutely perfect and exactly how we thought it would be. The planning and execution of this book has been done with extreme detail. Resulting in a story fans have not only craved from these two characters, but so much more than what we ever imagined.

“Not having a home, or a sense of belonging to someone or something, is like being adrift at sea with no safe harbour to set down anchor. For a small moment in time, Mackenzie Valentine had been my safe harbour. I had belonged to her.”

In short, Jake was a member of the King Street Boys gang when he lived in Melbourne and is dealing with the consequences when Mac shows up in his life again. The two try to navigate their way around a ‘friendship’, but there’s just way too much history there, and they fail. Jakes past ultimately catches up with him and Mac gets caught in the middle. Her family, the Valentines, are all a part of the reason Jake was able to leave the gang in the first place but the whole thing comes crashing down with devastating consequences. The book travels across years of their lives, tying up loose ends and answering questions we’ve had for a long time now.

“Mac somehow managed to start a war and finish it all at the same time. There is no weighing the size of the balls this woman carries. Let’s just say they’re really bloody heavy.”

I honestly wish I could say so much more about this book, but I really want everyone to be able to go in without really knowing anything. If you haven’t read the first three books in the series, read my series review here and hopefully that will convince you to one-click! You get a lot of back story from those books, and it makes Give Me Hell so much more enjoyable.

This is not a standalone. It’s a romantic suspense novel filled with hot, loyal, protective, Aussie alpha males who absolutely adore their women. My heart still races thinking of what we still have to come in this series but I’m extremely excited to see another favourite get their story (you find out who it is at the end of the book – so please don’t spoil it for others when you read it!!). I highly recommend this book and the entire series to every romance lover. It’s fast paced, full of heart, and has made its way to the top of my favourites list for 2017, and quite possibly my favourite book written by Kate McCarthy to date.

    5 stars!

BOOK REVIEW — Under Locke by Mariana Zapata

OH EM GEEEE GUYS!!!! This book was so freaking amazing!!! It was an intense, MC romance that brought up every single emotion in me. It was FUN, ANGSTY, SWEET and totally HOT. LOVED IT!!!!

Can I just start by saying what an incredibly talented author Mariana Zapata is. Her story telling skills are on point. Her books are long, but not unnecessary. I love every single word that I read and I will keep going back as long as she keeps writing. It’s so nice to read a story with just enough ‘story’ that it’s never over the top. Her books are not filled with pointless drama or conversation and they always seem so easy and effortlessly written. Read these books. They’re a joy to experience.

“Right then, in that moment, Dex The Dick grinned. Grinned. And sweet mother of God, it was devastating. So completely catastrophic I just stood there and absorbed the nuclear bomb going off in front of me, defenceless.”

So, Dex is a complete ass. A dick. A tattooed bikie with a serious attitude that no-one dares to cross. Until the heroine, Iris, walks in with her gorgeous looks and smart mouth and brings him to his knees with her very first “go fuck yourself”. This couple is electric. I loved them. Their relationship is rocky at first. Iris is battling and trying to accepting her past after her dad left them high and dry at the most vulnerable time in their lives, and Dex is struggling to seeing her for what she really is – the women he had no idea he needed in his life.

He was my boss, my brother’s friend, a Widow, an ex-felon, and a man I’d seen casually with a handful of women. But he was everything that gripped me, both the good and the bad. Worst case scenario if things turned awkward between us, I could go somewhere else. I’d gotten over epic heartbreak before, one more wouldn’t kill me.

After moving to Austin following six months of unemployment back home, Iris Taylor knows she should be glad to have landed a job so quickly… even if the business is owned by a member of the same motorcycle club her estranged father used to belong to. Except Dex Locke might just be the biggest jerk she’s ever met. He’s rude, impatient and doesn’t know how to tell time.

And the last thing they ever expected was each other.
But it was either the strip club or the tattoo shop.
… she should have chosen the strip club.

Mariana is the absolute queen of slow-burn romances. I can understand how some people get frustrated with the length of these books and how little ‘romance’ there is for such a long time. But you know what? Romance takes time. It’s like you’re really living through the lives of these characters. You feel everything. You ‘see’ everything. The day to day routines, the relationships with their family and friends – yet at the same time, nothing is lost. Mariana doesn’t lose sight of anything in her stories. The plot is full – it never goes off track. The romance is there, from the very first time they meet. It’s there. I think stories like these go under appreciated. I’m always looking for a book that it ‘full’. And what I mean by that is, it just needs everything – plot, amazing characters, friendships – things that I can relate to or see myself with. I’m not looking for insta-love. I want to see the characters work for each other. And Dex does exactly that. He chases Iris, and it’s so refreshing to see. I never found myself checking how much I’d read or how long I had to go. I just kept turning page after page, wanting more of these characters. Mariana had me completely invested from the very first chapter, and by the end, I had the most ridiculous smile on my face because I felt complete.

“But I’m not a good man, and I’m gonna take everythin’ you want to give me and everythin’ you don’t.”

Books like these are my weakness. When you mix an overprotective, moody, stubborn asshole type of hero with a heroine who can hold her own in any situation, it ignites something in me. And I go on the hunt for more books with the same criteria. Most of the time they fall flat though, but then a little gem like this that’s been hiding on my kindle for god knows how long is opened at just the right time, and I’m hooked. This book gave me butterflies. It had my heart racing, and aching, all at the same time. I laughed, I swooned, and I fell head over heals in love with this book.

“Babe, I’ve handpicked everythin’ and everyone in here. I know what I want and I get what I want,” he breathed. “And I keep what’s mine.”

Gah!! Dex was just soooooo sexy. He wasn’t a romantic kinda hero. He was strong, scary at times, ruthless and completely insane but Iris brought out a side in him that even his friends were happy to see. She tested him. Pushed him. Loved him. And it had me rooting for them and their happy ending. He never once made me feel like he was going to do something stupid and ruin his relationship with Iris, and I think that was a big reason as to why this book felt right for me. It wasn’t about a sexy biker who had women falling at his feet at every moment. I felt safe. I knew from the very beginning that he wasn’t going to be ‘that’ kind of guy. I was able to sit back and enjoy watching them fall in love with each other without the fear that another woman was going to come in and ruin the entire thing.

I can honestly say that this was one of the best MC books that I have ever read. Nothing overpowered the story. The characters were amazing. The chemistry was hot. The writing was captivating, and so easy to read. It just flowed so well. I definitely recommend this book guys! I absolutely loved it!!

BOOK REVIEW — The Hook Up by Kristen Callihan

The rules: no kissing on the mouth, no staying the night, no telling anyone, and above all… No falling in love

Anna Jones just wants to finish college and figure out her life. Falling for star quarterback Drew Baylor is certainly not on her to do list. Confident and charming, he lives in the limelight and is way too gorgeous for his own good. If only she could ignore his heated stares and stop thinking about doing hot and dirty things with him. Easy right?

Too bad he’s committed to making her break every rule…

Football has been good to Drew. It’s given him recognition, two National Championships, and the Heisman. But what he really craves is sexy yet prickly Anna Jones. Her cutting humor and blatant disregard for his fame turns him on like nothing else. But there’s one problem: she’s shut him down. Completely.
That is until a chance encounter leads to the hottest sex of their lives, along with the possibility of something great. Unfortunately, Anna wants it to remain a hook up. Now it’s up to Drew to tempt her with more: more sex, more satisfaction, more time with him. Until she’s truly hooked. It’s a good thing Drew knows all about winning.

All’s fair in love and football…Game on

“I’ve just experienced the hottest, most erotic, life-changing sex of my life, and I don’t think I’m going to get a repeat. Tonight was obviously an ill-advised hook up for her. And I’m so screwed because it was the best thing that has ever happened to me.”

Omgggg!!!! Where has this series been all my life!! What an utterly addictive college romance I never thought I’d fall in love with. Boy oh BOY was I wrong!

There is something so loveable about a story that follows two young adults as they begin to maneuver their way around the end of their childhood, and experience adulthood for the first time. We spend hours upon hours searching for that perfect book, with the perfect storyline, about two characters who we hope to fall head over heals in love with. And nine times out of ten, we fail. But then a book like this comes along and completely takes you by surprise. It sweeps you off your feet and takes you away to a world where college frat parties become the starting point of one of the most amazing college romances, and all our troubles disappear.

“I think you’re beautiful,” he says softly.
    “Beauty fades,” I choke out.
“Not when it comes from inside.”

No-one sees Anna Jones. They never have. And they’ve made her feel ugly, unworthy and isolated in the process. Her childhood was one she would rather forget, and after seeing first hand how her mother had her heart broken more than she cared to count, Anna vowed to never become that woman. She would never allow herself to become vulnerable to a man, to fall in love. So she moved cities, started her life again with her two best-friends and believed it was all she needed in her life to be happy.

    Until Drew.

“He’s slowly carving his name into my heart. And it hurts.”

Drew Baylor is the gorgeous quarterback everyone loves. In fact he’s probably one of my favourite book boyfriends right now. But underneath his confident exterior, there’s a lonely guy longing for someone in his life. After the death of his parents, he was left with more than enough money to support himself, but that wasn’t enough. Until the gorgeous, firey, stubborn redhead sitting next to him in class leaves him completely speechless, he’s never wanted anything more.

“She glared at me. I didn’t care. One word was playing a loop in my head: mine.”

This story begins as a seriously addictive friends – with – benefits arrangement, where regular hook-ups set the pages of my kindle on fire in every single chapter. These two have exceptional chemistry. The witty dialogue and fun banter were what had drawn me to keep reading in the first place. The epilogue was one of the best I’ve ever read. I’m always looking for a book to draw me in and hook me from the very first chapter, and this book did just that.

Drew and Anna had a lot of moments where my heart just ached for them. Anna was really struggling with accepting what Drew wanted from her. She had removed the thought of settling down with anyone from her mind, yet Drew wants no-one but her. This added a whole new level of angst to the story as they navigated their way around these emotions they had no idea had snuck up on them. And I’ll be honest, I put my kindle down a few times for a breather. My heart ached for them both.

“Drew doesn’t make me feel like myself. He makes me feel better than myself. As if there is a little broken part in me, rattling and loose, and whenever he’s near it falls into place and tightens. The thought has me withdrawing, sinking into that cold, thick place that chokes me. I’m beginning to need him too much.”

Among the heartache, there was so much love. And there was heaps of fun banter between Anna and Drew as well Anna and her best-friends Iris and George – and these scenes had me smiling like an idiot! Their romance was a gorgeous, hot mess that I couldn’t get enough of. It made me kick myself for waiting so long to give this series a go, but I’m sooooo glad I finally did!

You should definitely start with this book. I’ve added the rest of the series below in order. I’ve now read book 1 & 4 (read my review here), and feel as though you can read them on their own, but as always, the interconnecting stories and characters are always nice to know from the beginning.

The Give Me Series review + exclusive excerpt from Give Me Hell by Kate McCarthy

Before the release of the highly anticipated Give Me Hell – book 4 in Kate McCarthy’s Give Me Series – I just wanted to take a moment to recap the awesomeness that is this entire series, and hopefully convince more people to pick it up and read it. Also, at the end of this review, I have a little surprise for you all! Kate has sent me a never seen before excerpt from Give Me Hell, which will have a release date by the end of this week!!!!

    Now, onto my review…

This is by far one of my absolute favourite book series I’ve ever read, if not my favourite. Each book is based on a new couple, but they are all interconnecting. Every single character comes back in the following book, so start from the beginning. Its jam packed full of action, suspense, drama, heartbreak and a whole heap of hilarious scenes and one liners. But more importantly, there are plenty of hot and broody Aussie alpha heroes with strong, independent and feisty heroines by their sides, who I promise will steal your hearts completely.

These books are ultimately based around one family. The Valentines. Three brothers (Jared, Travis & Mitch) and a sister (Mackenzie). Although book 3 took a bit of turn away from the Valentine family in terms of main characters and was written about one of their best friends, Casey. But all the Valentines are still very much a part of the story. We meet Casey in book one, and you will find that these characters see family as more than just blood. They’re loyal, dedicated, strong and fearless. And they love each other beyond measure.

“I see you two together. I see you look at him and him look at you, and it’s like…that’s how it’s supposed to be.” – Give Me Love

Each couple battle through good, bad and bat-shit crazy, and fall in love in the process. Their love stories are epic and the chemistry is off the charts. This series as a whole is easily 6 stars and beyond.

It’s one of those book series that has stayed with me. I read book one (Give Me Love) back in 2013 and since then, I’ve found myself comparing other books to it all the time. The characters are always in the back of my mind, and the next book is always one I’m anxiously awaiting. The writing is brilliant. Addictive. And it hooks you from the very first line (in every book!!). It’s funny, raw and honest, and above all, incredibly beautiful. Their stories are ones that fill your heart with so much feeling and emotion, it’s hard to let go of them at the end!

“Every day I get up, tired from not sleeping, and I go to work and do what I do. Late at night I come home and go to bed for another sleepless night, and the whole time there’s a weight on my chest that’s so fucking heavy it leaves me feeling like I can’t breathe. When I’ve got hold of you, somehow it doesn’t feel so heavy anymore.” – Give Me Strength

There is a lot of story to each of these books. They’re not short. And they are by no means ‘light and fluffy’. But Kate McCarthy gets the balance just right every single time. I’ve gone back and re-read these books a number of times which I don’t usually do with books, and I love picking up new things and falling in love all over again.

    “Would you look at me?”
Grace faced me, folding her arms.
“I’ve never been in love before.” Her breath hitched and I knew how she felt. Just saying the words had my heart slamming against my ribs. “I don’t know what the hell I’m doing and I’m sure that’s obvious. I was only trying to tell you how I felt. That I want you to be mine, and mine alone. That I love you.”

So, these books are Give Me Love – Evie and Jared, Give Me Strength – Travis and Quinn, and Give Me Grace – Casey and Grace.

I really do recommend you read them in order though, because each of these characters are present in all the books, and it’s really good to know their back story from the first book. Book one is currently free, so YAY! Go and one-click that baby here.

“Family is more than blood. It’s everything we stand for and whether right or wrong, we stand for each other” – Give Me Hell

I really hope you all give this series a chance. If you’ve been following my blog and loving what you are seeing on here then I promise you, you will love these books. I decided to do this series review because book four will be out really soon, and it’s going to be epic. My reviews for each of these book individually are linked below, so feel free to check them out!

Anyway, I hope you enjoy what I have for you. Be sure to leave your thoughts below! <3

    Happy reading xx

With a low chuckle I roll over on my bed to eyeball the stolen file that I’d slapped on my bedside table last night before crashing. I’m feeling rather pleased with myself until my gaze encounters Jake. My gleeful chortle dies a quick death.

He’s leaning against my bedroom wall, bare-chested, arms folded, and wearing nothing but a pair of black boxer-briefs and a furious glare.

My gaze drops to the bed where Jake has laid out the black beanie used to cover my pale hair, and the black leather gloves that kept my fingerprints from any surface I came in contact with.

Fuck. The sun is streaming in through the blinds and I know it must be late morning already. Clearly I’d forgotten to set the morning alarm. A rookie mistake. And now I need to get past the gauntlet that is Jake and somehow get the file to Casey before he enacts his own plan to retrieve it.

My eyes flick up, meeting his. “Morning,” I say coolly.
His jaw ticks. “Care to explain?”

Jake’s car keys rest on top of the report file and I know he’s seen them. Not only had I performed a break and enter last night, I had also added car theft to my criminal repertoire. Explaining that will likely cause my untimely death. I pretend to consider his question for a moment. “Not really.”

Jake pushes off from the wall and moves toward the bed, bringing him closer. “Well you’re going to.”
“No,” I say, casually sliding across the mattress and away from Jake. “Not today. I have things to—” Putting one knee on the bed, Jake leans across and grabs the back of my long-sleeved shirt in his fist. He yanks and the distinct sound of a riiipppppp renders the air.

“My shirt,” I gasp as I fly through the air, landing on my back on the mattress with a hard bounce.
“I don’t give a rat’s fucking ass about your shirt,” he growls, straddling my body.

His hard thighs trap me in place and his hands pin mine to the bed. Moving will likely end with a cracked rib.

Jake leans his face down until I can’t look anywhere but in his eyes. “You can start with why you’re dressed like a thieving little bandit.”
    “Because I stole your car.”
“Why did you steal my car?”
    “Because I couldn’t get a cab.”

I actually considered calling for a taxi but then my movements would be on public record, easily placing me at the scene. I’d had to rule it out.

“Stop leading me in circles, Princess, and spit it the fuck out. What did you do?

I huff deeply, letting my frustration out. Jake isn’t going to just let this go. It leaves me with two choices. Lie or be honest. I chose door number two, because while I sometimes keep things from Jake, he doesn’t deserve outright deceit.

I spill out my early hours adventure, rethinking my choice of honesty as he sits back on the bed, his fury a slow-building thunderstorm.

There’s silence for a tense moment when I finish speaking.

“You committed a felony,” he says in a soft voice. I’m not fooled by the tone. His anger is a barely leashed lion. “And you used my car to do it.”

My lips press in a thin line. I hadn’t thought that particular implication through, and now I’m angry at myself. “I’m sorry.”

His expression narrows to one of vengeful retribution. “Oh you’ll be sorry.”
    “I will?”
“When I paddle your fucking ass.”
“Shut it,” he growls, his voice rising. “You broke into a detective’s house. You stole her property. You—”
    “Casey’s property,” I mutter.
“Don’t interrupt me when I’m explaining your stupidity to you.”

Please note: Although books 1-3 are all interconnecting standalones and can be read on their own, Give Me Grace (#3) must be read before Give Me Hell as the story continues on, and then goes back to the very beginning. You can catch up on the entire series below.

As his alter-ego Mister Romance, Max is a drop-dead gorgeous escort who makes romantic fantasies come to life. No sex, just swoon-worthy dates to die for, and the cream of New York’s socialites can’t get enough.  Whether they want a dominating billionaire, bad boy with a heart of gold, hot geek, sexy biker, or best friend who loves them from afar, Max can make it all happen, but he’s careful to keep his real identity a secret.

Ok so these characters were so fantastic. Max is completely drool-worthy. I fell for him straight away. His confidence and sex appeal oozed through the pages, yet he was softened slightly by his mysterious history. Eden was. . . gah! I freaking loooved her. Like, full on, girl crush Monday LOVE. She was sassy, witty, funny and knew exactly what she wanted out of people and life, and she didn’t give a damn what anyone thought about it. She was also completely against romance. Her track record of one night stands with asshole men drove her to think that romance was best kept in books.

Eden is an investigative journalist who’s about to get fired if she doesn’t come up with one hell of a story. So after a conversation with her sister one day about a guy who ‘women hire to make romantic fantasies come to life’, she throws the idea of a story about this guy to her boss in order save her job.

    “He’s an escort,” Asha clarifies.
“Isn’t that just a fancy label for man-whore?”
“No. He doesn’t have sex with his clients.”
I pass her a tip of coffee. “You just told me he did.”
“No,” she says… “I said he makes their romantic fantasies come to life.”
    “And that doesn’t include sex.”

After failed attempts to track this extremely ‘off grid’ Mister Romance down, she bumps into Max in the most ‘accidental’ way (and just FYI, omg it was brilliant! I was sitting up in bed with my hand over my mouth for a good 3 minutes while the whole scene processed haha). So after some conversation and amazing banter between the two, they agree to three dates for the sake of her story. He allows all questions and gives honest answers in order for Eden to have the exclusive she needs for her boss. And he will expose Eden to everything he offers his clients- but says that after the three dates, he knows she will fall in love with him. And when she does, the terms are that Eden will need to pull the entire article and forget she ever knew him.

Obviously Eden goes through with it and agrees to the conditions as she is 100% certain that he is full of shit and cannot sweep her off her feet after three dates. She’s confident the article will run after their time together is done because she’s never been in love with anyone and just doesn’t do romance.

“You’re so starved of romance in your life, you’re like an emotional skeleton. I intend to put some meat back on your bones. Make you believe in something other than a bleak apocalypse.”

Throughout this story, I honestly felt like I was Eden, or at least living this story right along side her. On the dates, Max becomes different characters in order to provide the perfect kind of romance and romantic scenarios (swoon!!). So you get to see a few different sides of him. But I was initially finding it hard to see where Max himself came into the story. I was confused as to who was falling for. Was it Max? Was is his other characters? I felt Eden’s confusion like emotional whiplash, but it just added so much depth to the entire experience. But in all honesty, the author’s writing style really made this book for me. It was a difficult concept to love in the very beginning. I had no idea how the author was going to make me fall in love with Max, but the way each word flowed onto the next, the way each chapter just kept building, it was honestly so well written I was hooked!

‘He once told me that you could live and die within the lifetime of a good kiss, and that’s what this feels like.’

As the story played out, the tension grew so much. Max’s ‘no sex’ rule made for intense feelings of frustration, which ultimately made the scenes so hot!

“Do you ever just take off your shirt and flex in front of a mirror? You know, to perv on your own hotness?”
“No. Do you ever take off your shirt and caress your breasts, just for the hell of it?”
I shrug. “Sometimes. When I get stressed, I cup my boobs and give them a reassuring squeeze.”
“Good information. Next time you’re stressing, I’ll have to try that.”

LOL! Oh, and this one too…

    “Uh… what’s happening?”
    “I’m taking off my shirt.”
“Because we’ve apparently reached the portion of the evening where we get semi-naked to torture the other person.”
He pulls off his shirt and throws in onto the stool with his jacket, and I’ll admit it, I gape… I’ve seen glimpses of his naked torso before now, but never the whole thing. And here he is, standing there wearing only his slim-cut dinner pants and a pissed-off expression, and I can’t remember a single reason why I haven’t licked him yet.

But seriously, this book has everything. It’s angsty in all the right ways, extremely sexy, very funny and just really really enjoyable. I honestly couldn’t put it down. I highly recommend this book, and every single book written by Leisa Rayven. Max Reily is definitely going down as a book boyfriend you will need to be acquainted with. You will not be disappointed, I promise!

BOOK REVIEW — The Hot Shot by Kristen Callihan

First we were friends. Then we were roommates. Now I want more…

What can I say about Chess Copper? The woman is capable of bringing me to my knees. I know this about five minutes after getting naked for her.

No one is more surprised than me. The prickly photographer my team hired to shoot our annual charity calendar isn’t my usual type. She’s defense to my offense, a challenge at every turn. But when I’m with her, all the regrets and darkness goes away. She makes life fun.

I want to know Chess, be close to her. Which is a bad idea.

Chess is looking for a relationship. I’ve never given a woman more than one night. But when fate leaves Chess without a home, I step up and offer her mine. We’re roommates now. Friends without benefits. But it’s getting harder to keep our hands off each other. And the longer we live together the more I realize she’s becoming my everything.

Trick is… Now that I’ve made her believe I’m a bad bet, how do I convince her to give this player a true shot at forever?

Swoony footballer alert! Wow okay this book was so great! And seeing as though it’s the first book I’ve read from this author (this is book 4 in the series of standalones), I loved it! It’s a sexy, slow-burning friends to lovers romance about a sexy footballer and a strong, feisty photographer. After the heroine loses everything in a house fire, they move in together and begin trying to navigate their way around this friendship that feels as though it’s becoming a lot more than just that. And then a weekend away pretending to be boyfriend/girlfriend made for some amazing tension and crazy sparks.

“She isn’t the sweetly pretty or stunning beautiful kind of woman I usually spend time with. She’s severe, elegant. It would be easy for me to say she isn’t my type. But I’m fairly certain that goes both ways. And I’m beginning to think my “type” has just changed.”

They are absolute complete and polar opposites, yet so incredibly perfect for one another. The authors writing style is elegant, easily read and the story is really well done. I’m a sucker for a good sports romance, and this was the perfect kind with not a lot of angst, but just enough to keep me turning pages until I was done. It was a really fun read and I fell in love with all the awesome side characters too! The others in the football team also have books, so I’m looking forward to reading all their stories also.

The banter and chemistry is awesome. Both of those elements in this story really fit well together. The two characters balanced each other out and made getting to know them, fun. Their romantic build-up was great.

“Finn, what am I going to do with you?” His smile is an easy glide, but his eyes hold mine a beat too long. “Keep me. I’m pretty sure I’m good for no one else.”

This is definitely one of those light hearted, fun, sexy, weekend reads that I promise will leave you smiling. It’s the 4th book in a series of standalone, and I’ll tell you now that I will be getting to every single one of those bad boys ASAP.

BOOK REVIEW: The Brave Line by Kate Stewart

Holy feeeeeeeeels. Wow. Just wowI can’t even begin to describe to you all the emotions this book gave me. It was hot. It was sexy. It was oh. so. adorbale. And it was so funny! But the incredible feels in this book took me to another world. My heart was racing, my stomach was fluttering and I was hanging onto every single world this author had to say. It was raw, honest, beautiful, heartbreaking and so wonderful. A truely unforgettable story. A top favourite for sure!

Also, he was fu— hot. I mean like Christian Grey, I’ll gladly take my panties off in a crowded restaurant to get fondled in an elevator full of people hot.

There comes a time in a blogger’s reading life when a book takes you by the most incredible surprise. You flick through the first few pages to see how it feels, and to find out if it’s going to be that book for you this time around. This story is about a girl named Michelle who moves cities after fleeing an abusive marriage. She find herself in the town of Charlestown where her best friend lives. She has thrown herself into her work as a dispatcher and lives a very simple life.

Rowdy is a cop who has lost a lot in his life. In particularly, his best mate. He was shot in their line of work and Rowdy hasn’t truely recover from that. Their ‘relationship’ begins as a no-stings type of scenario, but they quickly find themselves in waaaay over their heads. Their chemistry is incredible, even from their first meeting (note that their first meeting in the book comes a whole year after their actual first meeting – so they have known one another a while). I could literally feel it radiating off the pages. It had my heart racing from the first chapter and it was amazing!!! But it was also sooo funny!

“I don’t care how many women you’ve taken here.”
    “That many?”
“I like the part where you didn’t care.”
    “I was just curious.”
    “Stay curious.”
    “You really are an asshole.”

As they tried to navigate their way through their feelings, trying not to make it any more than just a ‘fling’, Rowdy and Michelle found themselves battling crazy emotions. Working as a police officer comes with great danger, and in this book, I really felt how a partner of an officer of the law would feel every time their other half went off to their job. This added to the feels. The worry, the stress, the anxiety. I felt it all.

“Yeah?” More light seeped through the window as he pulled the blanket over the both of us and turned his head to face me. We were a breath away. “Are you going to worry about me tonight?”

I could honestly go on about this book forever. I could tell you all the amazing lines and all the incredible scenes that had be pretty much neglecting my entire family for two days. I literally cancelled all plans just so I could read this book. I was hooked and I was falling head over heals in love with these characters. They were honestly so refreshing. Both of them. I can honestly say that this will be one of the best books I will read this year. I am completely sure of it. So if you only read a few books this year, please make this one one of them.

I highly recommend this story to anyone looking for a book with all the feels, yet incredibly steamy from the very first chapter.

I would let love rule in my heart and take a piece of my soul, but I would never let its loss destroy all of me.
