Fallon meets Ben, an aspiring novelist, the day before her scheduled cross-country move. Their untimely attraction leads them to spend Fallon’s last day in L.A. together, and her eventful life becomes the creative inspiration Ben has always sought for his novel. Over time and amidst the various relationships and tribulations of their own separate lives, they continue to meet on the same date every year. Until one day Fallon becomes unsure if Ben has been telling her the truth or fabricating a perfect reality for the sake of the ultimate plot twist.
Can Ben’s relationship with Fallon – and simultaneously his novel – be considered a love story if it ends in heartbreak?
This entire book, from cover to cover stole my heart in a way no other book has ever done since I read Fighting Redemption by Kate McCarthy back in 2013. Although they are two completely different stories, the feels and the angst I got from FR, is probably the closest to how I would describe the level of how I felt reading November 9. I can’t even begin to tell you the emotional roller-coaster you will find yourself on while reading this book. Colleen Hoover has not only outdone herself, in my eyes she has set the bar incredibly high for not only her future books but others that I read from now on.
“You’ll never be able to find yourself if you’re lost in someone else.”
Colleen Hoover is an author I will go into blind. Sometimes this is the best way. I didn’t read anything about this book. Not one thing. And I’m sooooo glad I held out!
That being said, I won’t be giving away anything about the plot in this review. But I do want to try and give you my most honest words and do this book justice.
From its unique plot, incredibly lovable characters, wonderful (and sometimes extremely heart-breaking) surprises, that plot twist and the emotion from Ben and Fallon’s extraordinary romance, November 9 will go down as one of the most stunning books I have ever read.
Colleen Hoover doesn’t miss a thing when it comes to story telling. Her talent is beyond anything I have ever come across. Her ability to capture my whole heart from the very first line continues to astound me and because of this, I will continue to drop everything I am doing the very second I have my hands on a Colleen Hoover novel.
The writing in this book is flawless. It draws you in, captivates you and before you know it, you’re at the end of a book that has completely moved you and you’re wishing you had read it slower, took it in a little more, even loved it a little more. But that’s Colleen Hoover for you. I was in my own world for the entire story, ignoring everything around me until I read the very last word.
[Ben] “On a scale of one to ten, how book-worthy was our first kiss?”
“At least a seven.”
“Seriously? That’s all I get? A seven?”
“I’ve read some great first kisses.”
He drops his head in mock regret. “I knew I should have waited. I could have made it a ten if I had a plan.”
This book has everything a perfect romance should have. A strong, sassy, perfectly imperfect heroine who I loved!! A sweet, incredibly loving, romantic, sexy, funny hero who I promise will steal your heart. Secondary characters who you will laugh with, cry for and wish they were somehow real, so you could be friends with too. A plot line you never imagined. A plot twist to leave your mouth hanging open until they sort that shit out! And a perfect HEA leaving you feeling all giddy inside, while secretly hoping for another surprise novella that Colleen is so famous for throwing out there when we least expect it.
I honestly cannot recommend this book highly enough. To me, it was perfect. Absolutely breathtakingly perfect. A book that will fly high on my ‘favourite books ever’ list and I hope you all enjoy just as much as I did.
Rating: 5 Stars. Standalone romance.
