Note from the author–This book is intended for a mature reading audience and isn’t suitable for younger readers.

Book 1 of Harper Sloan’s Corps Security series would have to be one of my favourite second chance stories. If you haven’t had a chance to check this one out yet, I’d be bumping it up your reading list. You will not be disappointed.

With a story very believable, it is also heartfelt, deeply emotional, very well written and it flows really well. Harper Sloan has quickly becoming one of those authors I cannot wait to read.

Fate hasn’t always been on Izzy’s side. She has been in an abusive marriage for the past 7 years. She lost the love of her life at such a young age, and along with a miscarriage, life has really kicked Izzy in the gut. Axel was it for her. The most amazing man she could have ever ask for. But after a sting of crossed wires, Izzy feels she has lost her soul mate forever.

“I miss my dreams, the sun, and I miss him. So fucking much.”

4 years later, stuck in a marriage she can’t run from. Until her best friend Dee helps her escape. Izzy’s soul is shattered, and with the help of her best friends Dee and Cage, she is slowly piecing her life back together in hope for finding love again.

This story had me on the edge of my seat. Axel and Izzy’s reunion had me turning pages so fast I couldn’t keep up with myself! I was totally consumed with every word. Each of the characters is a joy to read about and become a part of the family in my head. Harper Sloan has an incredible way with words and it keeps me turning pages until the very last.

I absolutely love the change in POV’s in this book. Knowing what the other character is thinking and feeling during a particular scene (especially a turning point) is always great, and it helps  you understand the characters more as well.

There were some really difficult parts to get through. Axel and Izzy’s parting 12 years ago didn’t come the way that they had hoped. Izzy was told one thing and what happened to Axel was something completely different. This was quite frustrating for me as their conversations throughout the beginning of their reunion had me almost screaming at my kindle saying “just freakin’ tell him already!” … So yeh, very frustrating. What was even harder to read was Axel’s feelings. He thought Izzy had just picked up and left him, and that cut me deep.

“It would have been quicker if she had stuck around and shot me in the fucking chest. At least I would have died instantly, instead of bleeding out slowly for the last twelve years.”

I was hurting for the both of them yet screaming for them to just sit down and communicate.

This book is a standalone. All books in this series are standalones. Harper is also very clear that she HATES cliffhangers. So rest assured, all her books have a completely resolved ending, which I love.

Overall, I really loved this book. I would definitely recommend this to everyone who loves a tough, solid Alfa male you favourite books. This will not let you down.
